L&CC Committee Meeting Minutes

Eby Apr 24, 2007 05:32 PM

They finally posted the minutes from yesterday's Local & Consent Calendar Committee meeting.

I was hoping to see more details about their decision to move HB 2414. Pretty boring stuff, but worth noted that Rep Howard made the motion and it was approved unanimously.

>>>Representative Howard, Charlie moved that the following measures be transferred over to the House General Calendars Committee: HB1370, HB2414, HB2667.

>>>The motion prevailed without objection.

It would be a good idea for us to thank each of the committee members for doing the right thing.

He got it moved. Did anybody here talk to him, or could it have been at the request of the lobbyist Mike Welker(OHI) spoke about, Jim Short?

Do we contact Charlie Howard and thank him? Ask him what he wants done with HB 2414?

He is the Rep from SugarLand. I'd also love to know what motivated him to make this motion. I think I'll call and ask after I get back from taking the kids to school (and scanning hwy 118 for DORs).

Here's a link to his website:

Doesn't really matter per se who he is, we should all send him a letter/e-mail thanking him for his efforts. Anyone we can get and keep on our side at this point.........

Well I called his office and registered my thanks. The staffer that answered either didn't know or just didn't want to say what swayed him to make the motion and vote to transfer HB 2414.

Since he is the chairman of L&CC, any reps not on the committee that were swayed by our efforts would probably have contacted him directly. Also, it's common practice in many House committees for the chair to make motions that have general support (and this vote was unanimous).

I see. He is chairman, I forgot. It makes sense now because as chairman I am sure he knows about all our letters. I just could not associate his name with a county that I hunt in so it seemed like he came out of the blue.

It would not be a bad idea to thank each committee member and the chairs for this motion to move HB 2414 to the General Calender. After all, they did all agree it needed exit the fast track and get more time for consideration before making it to the House Floor.
