2005 hatichling

jack Apr 24, 2007 07:38 PM

Was out in the turtle pen this after noon but did not see any of the adult box turtles. Then I went to the spot were I had my hatchling hibernating and move away some of the leaves covering the spot. I noticed that the dirt under the leaves was moving. It was one of the 2005 hatchlings. There is also 3 2006 hatchling in the same spot. Took a picture with my digital camera but it was hard to get a good close up with this camera. The hatchlings are in the center of the small circle of blocks. The adults are hibernating under the leaves at the far end of the Pen. Next week I will remove the leaves to help the ground warm up. Last week we had 8 inches of rain in central jersey and needless to say I was a little worried.

Nice find! Rain is good. We're in a drought here, and the turtles are hurting for some moisture...except the ornates. They're loving it.
