Coastal Carpet Question...Thanks in advance

chupacabra1090 Aug 14, 2003 09:23 AM

When someone is selling a snake as just a "carpet python" is it usually just a coastal? It definitely doesn't look like a jungle or irian jaya. Is there another of the more common species that they could be? Thanks.

This is one of my JCPs

That is just laziness on the sellers part, or it is probably a cross. Your right though, usually those type of ads end up looking more like coastals than anything, but who knows so I just would pass them by. I love that snake of yours. Sweet head pattern.

Ok, so in the US most Carpet pythons don't come from documented origins. So a lot of our Carpets really aren't Jungles or Coastal but a mix of both. IJ and Diamonds tend not to be mixed as much due to several reasons. IJ are new(er) to the US, so their origions can be better documented. Diamonds only have a small population in the US. Recently they have been crossed with Jungles but thats another story. The main point is if someone is selling a snake as a'carpet python', it means they don't know its origins. It just manes they're being honest plain and simple...

Hope this helps

But usually when people don't advertise their snakes its for 1 of 3 reasons:

1) They don't know.
2) The babies are ugly (LOL!).
3) Its a cross and they don't want to advertise it as one.
