feeding!

mma316 Apr 24, 2007 11:49 PM

i've just switched from feeding mice to small rats, which pose more of a challenge when it comes to subdoing it's prey, but she has been holding her own very well suffering no damage at all. i have noticed that she is more jumpy or slightly nervous ever since the change in food items, when she has been cool as a cucumber the whole 4 months i've had her, but i haven't had her strike at me. i was wondering wether i should stop feeding her in her housing enclosure or start handlnig more what do u think?

Don't feed it live rats.... every time you do you run the risk of the rat taking a big bite out of your snake. Switch over to pre-killed or frozen/thawed rats. Most bloods/short-tails switch over with no problems, and there's plenty of advice on these boards on how to get a reluctant snake to take thawed rats. In the long run it is much safer and easier than live prey.

Just start handling her more its not that you are feeding her rats is that she associates your hand with food now , so you have to handle her more.
