Growing like a weed.......

beclende Apr 25, 2007 12:41 AM

I purchased my first ball python the first week of January this year. She was about 17 inches in length and 90 grams according to the vet. Well it is now the end of april and she is already at 29 inches, I don't have a scale so her weight is not known. I was just wondering if this is normal? I am preparing to buy 2-3 more females this weekend and hope to have four normal females ready to breed in a couple of years, I have definately become addicted and can't wait to try my hand at breeding these beautiful animals. She is in shed right now but I hope to have a couple of good photos next week. (I think she is stunning, but I may be a bit biased Anyway thanks to all on this forum, I have learned a great deal in the past three months and I am sure I will continue to learn as I add to my collection.

These are some pictures of her earlier this week, but as I said she is beginning to dull in these photos. A little background, when I bought her she was dehydrated and had a respiratory infection, we got both of those problems cleared up within a month and she has been the perfect first snake since. Never missed a meal, in shed, shile she was ill, never. She is also very handleable and I have even gotten a couple of my roomates to become comfortable with handling her. Sorry about all the posting, I am just a proud parent and I have to gloat a little. Also, one more question, I swear that is all for tonight. When I got Bodhi, she had a great looking pattern in my opinion, but wasn't particularly coloful, but since she has developed a lot of yellow, even on her belly there are a couple of spots that creep up into her pattern, is this normal? She was likely a wild caught or a CH baby as I bought her from a local pet shop that regularly has WC snakes. Anyway thanks in advance to all that reply!

Nice snake, mine was also a bit dehydrated when I bought him/her. The reptile place I got him from was usually good about taking care of their animals but for some reason the balls didnt have water when I was in there. I gave the one guy hell about it and he gave them some water. By the time I left the store all the snakes were at the water dish.

Looks like normal snake growth to me My younger female grew like that once I got her. She's between 2.5 and 3 feet long (I needa measure her) and I got her at about 18 inches from the store.
