Paul has inspired me to start this what will hopefully become a catchy thread. Post pics from herping ventures...be they old or recent.
I'd post the gator from my SC excursion...but I haven't gotten around to loading it up on here....my next post WILL include it...Scout's honor
.
My first pic has a great story behind it. I was at a drainage ditch counting gray treefrogs one evening. As I was photographing one calling male, I caught movement out of the corner of my left eye. Swimming to the bank of the pool was another, not to mention larger, gray treefrog. It seemed to approaching the calling male...and I thought there might be a territorial dispute. Instead, the larger frog nudged the calling male with its snout, and the male immediately hopped on top and they began amplexus right there! It was an amazing sight.
My second pic is a northern water snake I saw slithering around one day and decided to try to photograph. It was tricky because these water snakes I monitor have a little tunneling system where they dart under a rock along this particular stream and pop up somewhere else downstream about 3 or 4 feet away. Not only that, but there's tons of thorns too! OUCH!
My third pic is a hatchling red-bellied turtle I saw basking and was surprisingly able to get very close for a good shot. It took forever to approach because I had to move VERY slowly...any sudden movements and that turtle would've plopped into the lake and swam away.
