Before I add the moss

tsusnakeguy Apr 25, 2007 11:43 AM

Is there anything I should do special to the moss before I add it. It was bagged in a nice clean looking prepackaged bag and it looks pretty clean. What should I do?

I just use mine as is.

For My Moss boxes I use an inch of peat moss. I add water and shake around until all is damp and kinda balls up into clods. If you take a handful and squeeze real hard, will get some drips. The damp peat moss makes a "dirt" layer. I then add an inch of green moss and spray it down as well. It will expand to 2X original size when damp. It's a practice thing but if you add too much water, mold will grow.

My BRB's love these boxes and usually crawl between the green and peat moss layers. Typically with just their nose sticking out. (waiting for food to walk by)

I copied this set up and my new BRB Mickey has spent a lot of time in the moss box, even though I have only had him 24 hours. I just converted Minnie's box to this set-up, but she is digesting her dinner under a hide and not exploring too much. I sm sure she will love it too.

This forum is great because the experts / experienced Rainbow Boa owners freely share their knowledge.
