Breeding size?

liquidfire Apr 25, 2007 02:00 PM

Hi everyone,
I have a female that is just over two years old, healthy, 15-16", 315 grams. I know that she may be a little small but thats all she grew. I have other bearded dragons that got the same care as her and are over 20" and 500 and 600 grams. Anyway, would she be able to breed this season at that size. I ask because she is over two years old and healthy, I don't think she will get any bigger. I was told she is a pogona nullarbor. I'm not sure how true that is but none the less thats what was told to me.
Thanks, Steve

I highly doubt it is a pogona nullarbor, as these bearded dragons are very rare in captivity, if any actually do exist outside of Australia. Also, they don't get much bigger than 12" head to tail tip.

As for breeding your dragon, I don't recommend it. Breeding small dragons can only result in small babies and just encourage smaller dragons in the market. Also, if all your males are quite a bit bigger than her, he could injure her while mating or worse.

Well, I'm sceptical that it is a nullabor. The folloowing link has an identification key.

But, regardless she is breedable if you can find her a suitable mate in the same species.
