breeding opportunity missed?

fliptop Apr 25, 2007 03:13 PM

Hi all,

I recently received a breedable-sized, proven female WS yellow/glades that I wanted to pair up with my male albino yellow. Here's the thing: she just came out of brumation 4/2, just shed on 4/23, and I slapped the male in her cage.

Nothing.

They got along fine, but no breeding activity.

Any thoughts? Mine are along these lines:

1) the male's not "in the mood" as it's late in his "breeding season"--he was not brumated, but that never stopped my corns in the past;

2) the female's not ready/receptive, therefore didn't give off the "right" pheromones with this shed;

3) the male's a female (I don't probe, but will introduce him to a spare male I have and observe what happens);

4) ???

I'd really like to breed him this year. Let me know what y'all think about the above, if there's still a possibility this season, and how you'd go about it.

Thanks!!!

It's still early concerning obsoleta. My blacks just started breeding this week, and in my experience glades breed fairly late. You have all through May and early June yet.

I was in the same boat you are. I brought the male out of brumation about a month after the female. I waited until he shed and introduced him to the female. Nothing. I tried misting, nothing! Intorducing while directly after feeding (supposedly works often) Nothing! Introduced with an open window during a thunder storm. Nothing! Three weeks of nothing! So I decided I would try it with his sister because she was turning blue and it would be too late for her soon. The second I put him in her tank he went NUTS! She would have no part of it. But I thought "since he is FINALLY in the mood....) I put him in with the original female and withing seconds he was on top of her! I never witnessed copulation but they have been together 4 times now and I am sure they have mated successfully at least once in those times. So the moral of the story is, keep trying! He will figure it out!
