Do not spam other forums about HB 2414

Joe Forks Apr 25, 2007 04:59 PM

I just got off the phone with JeffB and he requested we do NOT spam all over the site with TX H.B. No. 2414 messages. Abusers could get a little time out from Kingsnake.

Now, he was not upset, he just said not to do it.

Herp Law alerts are linked to the main page of kingsnake.com and it is unfortunate that folks do not look there all the time, but we have to be respectful of the rules and the rules say posting the same stuff in every forum is SPAM no matter how important the message.

They have really tolerant with all the messages in this forum and it most appreciated.

Now what I can do to help is add a page to the Alterna Page somewhere with the important messages linked.

If you guys will e-mail me the links you want posted for easy access, I'll put them up right away and link it from the main page at the alterna page. It won't anything Fancy, but it will fast track us right to the meat of our call to action posts.

It should only be put on forums that correspond to species that occur in TX and it is relevant on all those forums. I don't understand why kingsnake has been "really tolerant" about posts in this forum? That is what the forum is for! Also we pay money to place ads here and we are the supporters of this web site so I don't get it.

Mike,
I'll try to explain.

There are over 1200 pet related forums on pethobbyist.com. They have gone to great lengths to provide specific topic related forums so that each post will be MOST relevant to the topic of the forum. Since TX H.B. No. 2414 specifically relates to "Herp Law" and since there is a forum called "Herp Law" that would be the logical place to call home for posts relating to TX H.B. No. 2414.

By allowing all the posts here on the alterna forum, the moderators are being tolerant. If we push it, we will lose the topic in this forum as well. I for one am extremely grateful for what they have allowed to date. IMO the forum (including all the posters, you included) have been instrumental in our fight.

And finally, the other way I look at it is that it isn't my site, and so I must do as the owner of the site wishes. The owner of this site wishes that we NOT spam every forum on kingsnake.com with TX H.B. No 2414 posts.

It was called the Texas Herp Forum. If I remember right it was deleted when Pet Hobbyist took over for some reason.

The 6 Texas herp society forums are right where they have been for the past 5 years - under the Herp Society section on the forum index page. However, I cannot say what herp society forums existed prior to 2002.

Additionally Pet Hobbyist did NOT take over this site. Jeff Barringer OWNS PetHobbyist and all of the other pet sites listed at the top of the screen. Perhaps you are confusing things a bit. Several of the volunteer moderators from the Veterinary Information Network's "Pet Care Forum" were invited to come over to PetHobbyist back in 2002 when VIN decided to shut down their free public pet forums in order to concentrate solely on the paid membership/Veterinarian portion of their business. Jeff had pet sites that lacked moderators and the VIN-PCF moderators lacked a pet site to moderate so it was a logical move to make.

Actually the forum wasn't a herp society forum. It was simply called the Texas Herp forum. Maybe someone will know. Thanks for the info also.

go to www.kingsnake.com/alterna

under "what's new" on the front page click on the HB 2414 link.

There you will be finding any link which contains important info regarding TX H.B. No. 2414.
