GIANT anaconda

Serpent_Nirvana Apr 25, 2007 06:34 PM

Hey anaconda fans,

I took these pics at the Bronx zoo yesterday and figured I'd share. I think the female (in the first pic) is probably overweight, but it was impressive to see such a huge snake nonetheless. The male (second pic) was pretty big too, for a male.

Hope you like 'em!

Nice shots of the Bronx greens. What length do you think the female had?

Last time I went there the female had to be at least 16 feet. She is obviously over weight and QUITE mistreated. If you look at the pool in their enclosures it's full of mold and stuff like that. It's disgusting. In my personal opinion the Bronx Zoo should own 0 reptiles. They show no skill in keeping them. One of the keepers had the nerve to tell me a TIGER reticulated python was WILD CAUGHT and completely healthy. It had at least 2 built up sheds and had more scale seperation than any animal should have. If my mind serves me correctly the bronx zoo has gone through 5-6 retic's in the last 4 years.

Wow -- I went last week and while some of the things they did didn't impress me, but I didn't think it was *that* bad by any means. The tiger retic they had looked pretty good, no stuck shed or anything, and while that female annie is pretty overweight I didn't think the anacondas were in terribly bad conditions.

Maybe they've cleaned up their act a bit, or maybe they were on their best behavior for my herpetology class ... Who knows?

I can believe 16 feet, she looks pretty good sized. Like you said, lets hope they cleaned up their act. Thanks,

Kelly

They probably just did their monthly clean up. I've been there several times ( I live pretty close ) and for about a week and a half a month the animals look good. After that you can watch the dirt and mold and shed's build up.
