UVB measurements

HittoriHanzo Apr 25, 2007 06:52 PM

I was at Target today and I saw a air temperature UVA/UVB monitoring device for $20. It was made by a company called Oregon Trails or something like that and it was obviously deisgned for people but I was pondering it's reptile applications. Has anyone ever used one of these?

If it is what I think it is, it doesn't really measure UVA/UVB directly. It's an exposure meter geared to estimate "burn" ratings. It looks at your latitude and sun brightness and estimates how long you can be exposed without skin protection before you get a sunburn. It's no good for determining true UVB exposure or for measuring bulbs.

From what I could find, they sell devices like that in Europe a lot in lieu of true UVB meters for the general public.
