Feeding hatchlings?

rugha Apr 25, 2007 09:43 PM

I have 8 10 day old hatchlings. I have tried f/t rat pinks and live ones, nothing doing though. Any ideas on how to get them feeding?

Thanks!

Try mice hoppers and try waiting a week.

When did they first shed? Mine shed about a week after hatching and wouldn't eat for another couple weeks after that. They're both eating like pigs now, though. They didn't seem to mind the wait, even though I was panicking.

Good luck!

Feed live pinky mice or live pinky rats , this normaly works.

For a first meal, you can go at about 10 days old, assuming they have shed, but I would wait at least 2 weeks. The offer a live mouse "crawler"...somewhere between a large fuzzy and a hopper. Eyes are just open and they scurry around a bit, but do not jump. I've found timid feeders can be scared by the rapid movement of excited hoppers. Also, get colored mice. I've found they seem to prefer colored over white for a first meal. I feed all of mine the "crawlers" for the first 2 meals, then graduate to hoppers for about 2 meals, then small adult mice. At that point you can transition to FT adult mice or rat pups.
