Help with heating an arboreal type cage

cee4 Apr 26, 2007 08:34 AM

I am almost done with a tall Tokay enclosure it is 36 tall by 24 wide by 12 deep(acrylic).
In my usual fashion I didnt think about the heating issue till after the cage was almost done.I will have screening on top for a red lightbulb or CHE but since heat rises it will only keep the top portion of the cage warm. What do I use to make a gradual heat gradient from bottom(coolest 75) to top(warmest high 80's)

If I use a CHE only the top will have to be too hot to get a decent temp down low...
Im thinking of trying the heat cable but have never used it and not sure how it would work?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Unless the room where the cage will sit is quite cool you may not have any problem. CHE's produce radiant heat that does not rise like convective heat. However, you might get a slight layering effect since the bottom will hold the substrate and the ventilation will be at the top.

Before you do anything try placing some heavy rocks at the bottom to act as a thermal mass source/heat-sink.

If that does not work I'm not sure what to recommend. There are heat cables designed to be burried in soil.
