Feeding pic

EddieF Apr 26, 2007 08:56 AM

My snake really seems to hate getting fed in tupperware, she just can't get any traction. I try to convince her that she wouldn't need as much traction if she didn't eat Ass First Style, but she ate two fuzzies today, both AFS. On the second one, she got out of the tub and seemed to do better just in her tank so I took the tub out and let her finish it up there. She'd push the nose of the mouse against her water dish and stuff like that.

It's neat to watch her figure out how to use her body to fold down the legs and stuff.

Thanks! She's getting fatter faster than she's getting longer. But she's very close to being able to reach, in a straight line, from end to end of her 10 gallon. That'd be 18" maybe? Moving to a bigger tank in a few days.

" She's getting fatter faster than she's getting longer."

That is one thing that should be watched, and that is if the snake is getting fat. Obesity in snakes is never a good thing.
She looks fine weight wise now, so I wouldn't worry about. If she does seem to be getting fat, skip a meal here and there and see what happens. For her, I personally would feed her one meal every 5-7 days, but that is just me. She is gorgeous by the way!!

Some kings bulk up very easily, some can eat a ton and never get fat. They are all individuals. My alternas are a perfect example. Some gain weight too quick, some are always lean.

Awesome score on that snake!! Glad you are enjoying it!!

Thanks Billy! I'm not close to worried about her being overweight, we were underfeeding her the whole time we had her until I started asking around here. So I think her body is quickly trying to get to where it should have been already. But I will keep an eye on it.

thanks for the compliments!

Eddie,

looks like she's growing! AFS style - lol! Yes, mine still does on occasion. Just recieved some bigger mice from RodentPro, and my snake is taking twice as long to get them down, he gave up on the AFS the other night and finally figured it out.

Keep that snake fed!
Ray.

I'm telling you, you and Bluerosy might be getting thank you cards in the mail from my snake! She's been pigging out!

I have an adult female eastern king... She has to be at least 3 years old...

You would think by now she figured that SWALLOWING PREY SIDEWAYS IS BAD!!! lol.

She will try to swallow a mouse in whatever position she grabs it in.

Causes quite a mess half the time.

Not cool.

Mine will almost always take a bit sideways first, then once she realizes it's not getting away because it's frozen/thawed, she can then take her time to find, and approach from, the ass.

lol. She did this the last, oh I don't know... 6 feedings. EVERY time, she tries to swallow them whatever way she grabs them. lol.

Looks kinda dangerous. I fear for her choking one of these times.
