PALM BEACH POST (Florida) 15 April 07 Police, trapper nab alligator on Boynton Beach roadway (Susan Miller)
Boynton Beach: Police got an early morning call to subdue a large, aggressive, cold-blooded alligator.
The 9-foot, 350-pound gator was seen about 4:45 a.m. Saturday wandering in the 1300 block of Gateway Boulevard.
A passerby called it in and police, along with a gator trapper, taped its mouth shut and led it off.
"It's unusual that an alligator would be walking on a roadway, but in this urban setting it's something we can expect," said Dani Moschella, spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Last year, the commission received more than 21,000 nuisance alligator complaints.
"We have a lot of alligators, and sometimes we are going to run into them in places alligators shouldn't be," she said. "The best thing for people to do is stay away from them."
Anyone who spots a nuisance alligator is asked to call (866) 392-4286.
