Hoped for the best, but was disappointed

johne Apr 26, 2007 10:10 AM

I got home very late last night from S. Dakota. I checked on Spice's eggs in the incubator and they look all bad to me. She had laid them all on the substrate instead of in her nest box. Oh well...maybe next time. they are very deflated, but I plan to keep them for several days to see if there is any growth or progress.

I'm sorry to hear about this... Would it be possible to save them if they plumped back up soon?

With my eggs, I've had them on damp sand. When they started deflating shortly after they were laid, I put more water in and then put some of the sand on top of the eggs. Voila, in the morning they were all plump again! unfortunatly, I didn't have a great setup to start, so water dripped on them and I've lost 5 of 6 so far... But I at least have one that looks good. I hope that this works for you as well... But maybe you will have more eggs in a month or so. Good luck with everything.

the eggs were laid on dry substrate...some on rocks beneath the head lamp. I'm saying she's a pretty lizard...not a smart one LOL.

I am keeping them in the hovo-bator until the grow fur...

Well I guess I didnt really think about it in too much depth, therefore cross cross, ie fingers to send you some hope for your little eggs seems fitting.....

I could cross my toes too, that would be:

x x (fingers)

X X (Big toes) ha ha

Such a shame. Sorry about that Johneee, I remember last year one of my girls layed out in the open and trampled on them all night. What a bummer.

Funny how sone are such good moms, and hide in their nests to lay, and take time to cover them all, and even protect the nest and cover it with more dirt for a week after laying.
And others lay them as they walk around, LOL just leaving them anywhere.
