I posted before that I put a mouse pinky in with an African Soft Furred litter before and the mom actually raised it and i did pretty well (till I needed to feed my snake lol). Anyways. I had run outta room for a short time and decided what the harm could be in putting some mice and ASFR in the same container till they got to be adult-ish size for my friend's Jungle Carpet Python. Well the other day I saw the weirdest thing, one of my mice (male) (who I'm saving as a breeder) was mating, or trying to anyways, with one of the female african soft furred rats. o_O
Can they mix breed? could the rat get pregnant from the mouse? I don't have but one container and I need that one for the other weaned mice.

Once my big rat got into my my mouse cage and ate my mouse. I came home and saw it chewing on a mouse corpse thats missing a head and arm. But my rat was much bigger then the mice.

Of course a rat can become pregnant by a mouse. That's where used car salesmen come from...

no, ASFR (or natal rats) cannot interbreed with mice or rats. You can keep them just fine with EITHER rats, mice, or gerbils without any trouble. They snuggle up just fine with either my rats, or my mice. Natal rats make a GREAT cagemate for a lonely male mouse since they wont cannabalize each other
