Isn't 20 years a long time to spend alone? Question about pairs...

Folkwitch Aug 14, 2003 11:02 AM

I have been wondering...isn't 20 years a long time to spend alone? I have been thinking about pairing my male bp with a female companion (and letting the chips fall where they may with regard to breeding). Can you put them safely together in an enclosure, and do they seem to benefit from companionship?
Thanks.

Simply put, snakes are solitary animals and don't benefit from being kept together.

If they have been raised alone, it would stress them out... But if they have been kept together from near day one, AND ARE'T BREEDING, it is fine... Males together will work against the non-dominent one from breeding, when a female is present. And for the female, to 'insure' breeding, keep separate until it's time, then introduce the two...

There is TONS of discussion on these forums as to whether or not snakes can be housed together, look at older posts in this forum, you will find a lot of differing oppinions on this subject.
