"pied spot ball" from bp gallery

fire_Flyny Apr 26, 2007 10:27 PM

How/why does this spotting occur?

some one recently posted a pic of a bp with white spots on it.

I adopted an animal that has similar markings but it wasn't born that way. It developed some type of skin infection. Some of the scales are completely white and healthy looking. Somewhat similar to pieds which worried me at first because when I asked them about it he said he wasn't sure how the skin problem started. He said the snake had mites, he also mentioned he cleaned the tank with bleach that might not have washed off completely. It occurred to me that he might have tried to bleach the snake. He seemed sincere about the snake so I don't think he initially tried to make the snake look that way, I figured the damaged tissue and scales just turned white.
this pic is of the snake posted in the gallery (not mine)

Try that picture again. I'd like to see it.,I have one female that has white spots. There's not a thing wrong with her, shes always had light yellow spots and they grew bigger and turned white. Some would make up a name for her. To me she just has white freckles...Time will tell if she's a Dalmatian Ball. If its not taken it's mine...LOL

It's my snake. It has been like that forever. It has pied white patches of scales, no changed pigment and they are not scars. It also has patches of black pigment that look like spilled ink similar to what people label as "paradox". Evan

I forgot to mention, they used to be called bullseye balls but somebody is using that for something different now. I called it spot. I know BHB used to have some like it and I have seen a couple others. The amount of white varies. I don't believe any have proved to be genetic yet.

so it's basically like a ringer?

evansnakes Apr 27, 2007 03:01 AM

No, it isn't really anything like a ringer. The black and white patches are all over it's body, not limited to one area. It has the odd black pigment and the pied white pigment. Ringers do not. It does not have any yellow or orange on it's body and it has a normal belly.

I have one that has the black scales also. I've bred her and none of the babies had any black scales... She dosent have any of the white non-pigment markings however. This is an older photo as you can see.

I think if the animals that have the white scaled areas did have the pied gene, you would see that the rest of their pattern would be all swirly, except for the head and neck - like a pied?

Have you bred her?

You have something there , I would defnitley breed to prove it out is it fem or male, and where did you get it? wild , ch , cbb?
