if you do you will see the cover of the Oct. issue soon, if not check it out late Sept. when it hits the news stands. The front cover is a photo of an Acanthosaura crucigera and the article is Breeding and Husbandry of Mountain Horned Dragons by yours truely, Marcia E. Bradley!

I dropped the article in the mail Aug. 5, 2002 and signed a contract in October 2002. It is altogether another thing actually seeing this in print! I sure hope this helps with the MHD situation in the pet trade. Now I will reach about as many people as I can!

Just a little horn tootine here and I'm not usually one who wants to be noticed. I just want the MHDs to be!

I really enjoyed that article. It was well written and very imformative. After reading it I started getting interested and did a little searching online. I ran across your website today and until I came here and saw your post I was sure someone had ripped your story off. I never bothered to check the name of the author on the article.
Currently I have a bearded dragon and am going to attend a reptile convention at the end of this month. I'll either be coming home with another beardie or a pair of leopard geckos. After reading your article though, I am truly interested in the mountain horned dragons. Are they similar in personality to beardies? What's the cost on a single dragon and where do you think I could inquire about obtaining one?

I believe the temperament of the A. capra is very comparable to the bearded. For those who prefer a little spit the crucigera and armata seem to be a bit less tame.

One plus with MHDs is that you can keep multiples together without them fighting or causing injury to one another. The other is that although they do take a large/tall enclosure you don't have the expense or maintenance of heat lamps and/or uth devices. Most fit well into the average household as far as temps leaving humidity and UVB to be the main concerns/expense.

As for cost, you can find my cost on my site by checking www.froggieb.com/MHDAvailable.html and MHDTerms.html.

There may be others available and you would have to check on costs with those who have succeeded in hatching them out. If you want to email me I can answer any other cost/contact information I can think of.

I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I know that it did parallel my web page considerably but I tried to interject some ideas and thoughts that aren't on the site. I do wish I had been able to add some of the things I have learned since I wrote the article a year ago but I am sure that the opportunity will arise at some time.

I recommend that you scan through this forum and gather other information. There is much to be learned here.

I just sent an email and forgot to ask this before I sent it.
How often do you handle your dragons? and also would you reccomend allowing them to free roam in a single room of your house (under close supervision of course)?

unless your house is very neat
I know when I let mine go out for a 'walk', she can run and jump and hide VERY WELL
and her color is darker for a while afterwards
since I started feeding her in her tank, and not taking her out very much at all, her color is almost pale green (it does not photograph well though, I have tried)
