Python temperment

cesktw0 Apr 26, 2007 11:31 PM

Ive always found the carpet python to be georgous! Im curious how their disposition is as far as temperment? Are they nippy generally when they are young and calm down after handeling? I would like somthing other than a ball python, but nothing as big as a retic or burmese. thanx

I'd alos suggest looking into the various antaresia species - Children's, spotted, anthill, and Stimson's are all excellent smaller pythons. Savus and Macklot's are good and small, too. We have Children's and anthills, and other than very young hatchlings, they are just as docile as balls. Our female Savu is also very docile. The younger male Savu is still agressive in his enclosure, but is docile and quite easy to handle once you get him outside.

I had a carpet python and it was nippy as it was only a month old. But with handling they calm right down. A month or two of handling and the temperament was the same as a corn snake.
I thought I was moving so I gave it to a friend, only to find that I'm not moving and not he doesn't want to give the snake back cause it's so well tempered lol
I also have 2 spotted pythons, also very well tempered and docile. Even small children can hold it without having to worry about being bit or anything.

This looks like what they call a "blonde mac" in Australia - having a very light background with a tight splotch pattern (like what yours has just past his head). I've been looking around for one like that.

So who did you get it from?

I got both my spotted pythons from ads here on kingsnake. My female (spotty one) came from a private collection a man was having to give up, and the male (blotchy one) was from a small breeder who told me that he's 66% het granite.
