Important for new Chondro/GTP Buyers!!

chondroguy1 Apr 27, 2007 10:46 AM

I dont know if there are any first time buyers out there, but I feel it is my civil duty as a long time GTP (Green Tree Python) keeper to help you avoid getting ripped off. I cant urge you enough to try to find a reputable breeder in your local area as opposed to buying online,"moma said snakes are like a box of chocolates,& you never no what you're gonna get!". Also I would like to add that the sellers that use phrases like "rare full stripe" to try and boost up the price are full of it! There is very little reason to believe A baby having a full stripe will definitively lead to a blue stripe as an adult.(I cant stress that enough, the best way to get a high end designer chondro is to wait until the color change takes place. I know this because I bought 2 beautiful yellow "Sorong Types(I wont even get into the locale BS that goes on!!) w/ the full stripe and ended up with 2 beautiful almost entirely green adults 5 years later.. If you see something for a price that looks too good to be true, it probably is, so spend the extra money and buy from reputable breeders that stand by their animals.... Email me with any questions I would be glad to help if I can..

That doesn't sound so bad.

Two things I like so much about GTPs are that (1) every baby matures into a beautiful adult, and (2) even wild caught adults are stunning.

Most other snakes are bred to emphasize a trait that is either very rare or doesn’t exist in 99.9% of wild snakes. Wild caught GTPs are every bit as attractive as CB. (CB obviously do much better with temperament, feeding, and general health – I was only referring to appearance)

Many other snakes look great as hatchlings, yet grow to darken or fade with age.

If your only expectation is to raise a neonate to become a beautiful healthy adult, I don’t see where you can wrong provided you are buying a healthy well maintained baby.

Hi,

Kinda hate to tell you this but this warning is true for all pet animals....dunno if it would be good for you to know the problem is *much* worse in ball python land than in GTP land.

Generally speking I don't think there are any single factros that make someone jump out as a problem....and the ifne line between agressvie advertising and stretching the truth is always hard. Full stripe neos are rare ... and if you look none of those ads say that menas full stripe adult blue, that's an assumption buyers tedn to make....they tend ot make lots of assumptions.

I'd agree with the diea of getting a bit of surety (reference, BBB, etc) before buying any pet animal but GTP's - if anything - are better thna average in terms of fraud/bs level.

All the best,

Ross
