A bit over your price range, but my dream animal for a tank like would be a red-eyed crocodile skink, Triblonotus.

not over my range but really but i odnt like spendign that much on animals

Then maybe you should pick another hobby rather than maintaining reptiles. The smallest of animals can create a big expense really fast. I found this out when my 6’ Burmese Python racked up a $6,000 vet bill in a mere 4 days.

Well, I meant the range you stated. A trib will run you between 65 and 90$. A little extra money will usually save you in the long run with vet bills. I can't think of any other semiaquatic lizards small enough to to live in a 55 at any rate. You might want to look into salamanders or mandarin newts. When you're buying a reptile, divide its original cost by its lifespan and it sounds a lot cheaper that way. If a 100$ skink lives 10 years, that's only 10 bucks a year. That's a pretty good deal for a fun pet.

(hmmm... if my $5 turtle lives longer than me, that was probably the best deal ever).

before i even attempt to answer you i want to know what kind of lighting you have, whats the humidity, whats the basking spot temp, whats the cool temp, whats the hot temp, and whats the night temp? THEN i will answer you.

He's a little musk.. a guy had a bucket 'o turtles at a reptile show and said I could have all five for $20 or just the one for $5... probably would be a bad idea with any other animal, but musks are indestructible little creatures. I'm not cheap or anything, I have another turtle that cost me $350 ($3.50 a year?). I just know a bargain when I see it :P.

You can get RES from wholesalers for $3.50 though, so the price wasn't THAT outrageously cheap.

Jason W Aug 18, 2003 07:59 AM

Wow RES for 3.50 that’s pretty cheep. Well I guess it's not to cheep after you consider possible vet bills. My RES ran up quite a tab with the local vet in no time.

One of those animals that OUGHT to be worth more, eh?
My little 5$ turtle has never needed to go to the vet. Musks are cool.
