Has any one had this happen?

xblackheart Apr 27, 2007 04:55 PM

Has anyone had a corn snake that took days to lay an entire clutch? Most snakes lay within a couple hours and are done at least overnight. Has any snake ever taken days to lay, without being egg bound. I have a snake that is not stuck, she is producing good eggs, but just at an amazingly slow rate. She is literally the biggest corn snake I have ever seen, yet she is not obese. Just big. The eggs are pretty small for such a large snake and I was wondering if that might be her problem.

I used to have a female that would lay about 3-4 eggs everyday for about a week until she was done. Unfortunately, only her first batch of eggs would survive to term and all the others that were laid "late" ended up going bad so I sold the female after a few years.

Hey, thanks for the response. This snake's eggs are really round. More ball-like than the normal oval shape of corn eggs. They all look good so far. i think she might be done, though. If she does not lay anymore by tomorrow, I am going to take her in and have her radiographed to make sure there is nothing left. I'd hate for her to get stuck on the last one and get sick because I thought she was done.
Thanks again!

My female creamsicle's last clutch was like that.
I was out of town when she laid, and my wife had to midwife.
With instructions from the vet, she palpated the eggs out.

Guess I'm pretty lucky to have had such a woman.

Thats cool.
I had to help with one, but the rest have come out on their own. The one, I helped because the snake was clearly not making any progress with it and she actually came out of her nest box and was "pacing" her cage trying to get the egg out. It was odd, though because that egg was not much different than any of the others. It was more of a ball shape, than the normal oval type. Other than that, it was not too big or a dud. I have been keeping a very close eye on this snake and I think she is finally done. I will xray her to be sure, though.

Sounds like its worked out OK.
The X-ray is a good idea.

Good luck with all those eggs!
