Name that species...

Since I can't! I also posted this in the rattlesnake forum.

Found this guy in front of our garage tonight. The camera couldn't focus too well 'cause it was dark, and it washed out the red a lot. It was maybe 12 inches long, probably a lil longer. North County San Diego area, about an hour inland and an hour north of San Diego itself. Mountainous Desert kind of area.

That is a colorful little helleri you have there. Crotalus v. helleri to be precise. Quite a toxic snake...

Well, to be really precise, it's C.o. helleri.....tsk, tsk Lat, you know that! What's up man, that RxR proximity affected your thinking...lol.

For J3nny, also called the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake. They are very common in our area.
