The real deal

I have a pair of Ackies approximately 6 and 8 months old that have been housed together for the last 5wks. The larger of the two has repeatedly chased off, bitten and pinned the smaller one. Today the tables have turned the smaller Ackie has been mating with the larger one and s/he has been totally receptive. They were both locked into position for over an hour an a half and their still at it as i type. I am aware that both sexes will do this but today its completely different they are both at ease and my presence has not disturbed them one bit.

Do i have a pair or is this just dominance that im witnessing?

From the pics, its appears to be a cycled female, breeding with a smaller male.

Of course, thats the easy part, they do that all the time. The rest is where it gets touchy.

Also, I continue to ask(not you in particular, but all of you) Why you make so much out of every little thing?

If you support them, they will end up doing what they do. There is nothing you can do to change that. If they are both females or both females, they will stay that way. If its a pair, and that appears to be the case here, they will be that way too.

Making all this and that about every little behavior, will only get you in trouble. You must understand, what drives biologists crazy, and why they often ignore behavior is, it does not have to stay consistant and be repeatable. It could mean one thing on one day and something else altogehter the next day.

It very much sounds like you have doubt about what sexes you had, if that was the case, your task is to educate yourself on how to tell them apart. Its kinda easy with ackies. But it does take actual research and experience. Consider, its not research to read stuff on the internet. Thats entertainment. Cheers
