Day 18 and still no eggs....

Colorfulcorns Apr 28, 2007 04:39 PM

I'm getting worried. she doesn't stay in her nest box long, she will go in look around and get out...Is there a problem? It's the same thing I used last year and she layed....The only difference is I didn't brumate them this year....
I have them in a rack and the heat is set at 82....
I don't know what to do....

you keep saying stuff like day 12, day 15 day 18...why?
Are you talking about18 days after a shed or 18 days after they hooked up?
What you need to do is work from when you know they mated.
They can have a shed close to mating time and then lay after a subsequent shed.
It is also possible she isn't graveid and also possible she has resorbed the eggs.
Tell us when you saw a hook up and maybe we can give you a better idea as to when she should lay if she IS gravid.
Is the substrate in her lay box moist enough?
Too moist?
Warm enough?
Too warm?
The increase in activity can indicate she is looking for the right place to lay.
A little more info may help.
Sorry if you have provided this and I missed it.

She is gravid, I can feel the eggs in her. She had her prenatal shed on apr 10. She should have layed by the 24.
I had a friend take care of my snakes for a month because my wife had severe complications to pregnacy. My friend would pair them up weekly. The only mating that I recorded was on Mar 6. She could have mated more but I wasn't here for it.
Please ask all the questions you can think of,I will try to answer them all.....
here are picks of her....

Also if she is reabsorbing the eggs, can and will she still lay a second clutch ?she did last year....If so when should i start mating her again?
I ask this because at first I counted at least 18 eggs in her now I can only count about 10 and there are spaces between eggs where there should be eggs...

I had one last year that resorbed her eggs and once I knew they were gone I put her back with the male and they hooked up successfully and I ended up getting 14 good eggs.

your girl definitely looks gravid in those shots.
If they had a successful hook up on March 6 she should be laying.

I guess the best option would be give it a little longer and see if she does resorb the eggs.

Yeah she does have eggs in her, so I'll wait awhile and see if she lays....It's just agonizing, I wasn't here to see or record anything for a month and I didn't brumate them, so alot has happened and I don't know what's going on with her.
My banded on the other hand should be laying in the next couple of weeks...

I had one of my girls go ages this year (as a first timer) and I thought that I had mistaken her prelay shed for the ovulation shed and she was doing her own thing. 21 days after the shed she laid 11 perfect eggs. Go figure.
