Field herpers unite!

MAD1975COW Apr 28, 2007 08:03 PM

Well, fellow herper Ian Davis (from the forum) and I met up at 6:30 this morning for a day of herping. We covered two parks, and probably ten miles of trails. We ran into quite a range of species. Even had a close run-in with a black bear. Although, due to auto-focus, I suspect Ian got better pics of the bear. Here is the first set representing the small lizards. A Green Anole,a ground skink, and a southeastern five-lined skink.

Here is a set of some of the larger stuff we ran into. A nice size American Alligator, A Black Bear, and A Northern River Otter. I know the mammals are a bit out of place here, but I wanted to share. Sorry for the blurry bear though.

Here is the final set representing the snakes we found, a Yellow Ratsnake, a southern Black Racer, and a Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnake. That's Ian with the Pigmy and me with the Yellow rat. We found a few more Pigmies, but I figured one shot would do considering they were all similar in size. I highly recomend using the forum to find other field herpers in your area. Ian, I had a great time buddy, can't wait to hit some more spots. I think next time I won't wear black. The sun almost killed me today. Enjoy, TJ

Sorry, had to post one more to get in the close-ups on the black racer and yellow rat. Peace.

Thanks for posting some pics Ketonquot. We will have to see how the bear pics come out. If I get a decent one; I'll post it someday.

Peace,
Ian Daviss

Nice pics! Somewhere in FL? Glad to see the green anoles, I live in winter springs fl and we have nice population of greens here. I'm on the second floor and I watch at least four or five anoles going at it all day long.

Yeah, actually volusia county. Sorry for lack of info. I've hunted a bit out in your area too. I'm originaly from Orlando. I moved out to Deland like a year ago. We're going out again tonight for some nocturnal pond hunting. Hope to have pics for tommorow.

I live very close, and I never have anyone to go out with. Girlfriend is only good for short durations like 35 min or so..lol. Maybe sometime we could get together. It's funny because I just had my atlas open to Volusia county. I am off Sunday - Tuesday, I would go at anytime.
