Breeding season question

sean1976 Apr 29, 2007 12:40 AM

Anyone have any idea how long a unbred female will keep puting off the "come get me" smells? Or similarly how long a male with or without the presence of the "come get me" smells will remain in mate seeking mode?

I only ask so I have an idea of how long my male will remain off feeding. He went about 8 weeks I think without a meal, then ate a small rat, and hasn't eaten in the 3 or 4 weeks since.

I'm not worried at the moment since he seems completely healthy in every way other then food intake. I just would like to have a better idea of how long to expect him to keep refusing meals.

Another thing that is probably a factor is that my female BRB is housed about an ince away from him and both cages have a little bit of exposed screen on top. So if she is puting of any smells he is likely catching whiff of them.

Anyways any info/experience would be great to hear.

Thanks,
Sean.

Not sure how long it can last if they are kept apart but not to worry, the male will be fine without food for months. When he's ready to eat, he will.
