Help!!! psycho snake

pamir1129 Apr 29, 2007 02:04 AM

I have a mexican Black king. for the last 10 days he has been "wild" by this I mean VERY active, constantly climbing rubbing the glass of his enclosure, can not be handled because he is always going will not slow down no matter what. He ate last sunday, I offered food tonight and he has yet to eat it but he does sometimes take a while. has no symptoms that I can see, temp in his home is the same, nothing that I can tell has changed, other than I did get some new snakes (in different enclosures of course) I am wondering if he can sense them and that is causing his weird behavior. he is acting like psych patients during a full moon!! I have had at least 20 snakes in the past and never had one act like this but this is my first Kingsnake, I have had him close to a year. Any ideas??

Thanks
Pamir

Sounds either too hot or like a male looking for a mate. Just two things to think about....... Try turning off the heat source for a day. Tom Stevens

You said you just added some new snakes. Any of them happen to be female?

A male in heat will go off food and constanly pace and rub against the cage. All my adult males are this way right now.

I was thinking the same. One of my corns is definitely a female and we believe my red tail boa is as well, I have not probed her yet, but the person I got her from claims he did. I moved him (Indian my king) to another room and he seems to have calmed down. I thought that it might just be he was looking for a "friend".

thanks
Pamir
