Blue eyes in leucistic Texas Rat snakes

spliskin02 Aug 14, 2003 12:42 PM

I have a "leucistic" Texas Rat snake. It's eyes are some kind of red. They are very difficult to discern the color. They don't really look like the red eyes of an albino.

Anyway, I just wanted to know, is this snake really leucistic? I see where many ads about leucistic Rat snakes mention dark bluish black eyes. That is what I thought I was getting, but it doesn't seem that way.

Any help?

The leucistic TX rats that I've seen have silver/pale gray irises and pupils that are just off black in the direction of red. The dorsal pattern should be invisible or very close to it. Hope that helps.
