I have a 2 month old australian freshie that has developed a fungal infection, my vet suggested betadine it seems to help but not as well as I would like has anyone come across this before?

Man that's nasty looking. Betadine will help topically, but it looks like this infection has penatrated into and past the dermis. Systemic antifungals, as well as topicals will likely be needed. Antibiotics will likely be of benefit as well (secondary infections are likely). All of this should begin with biopsies and c/s panels to get a better handle on the diagnoses. Blood work is highly recommended IMO as well to look for systemic effects. It sure does look as if this guy is overwhelmed.
Now either your vet started out very conservatively, or is not very experienced with herp medicine and/or dermatology or fungal problems. Discuss your case with this vet, and ask if he/she thinks a referal is a good idea.

I have increased the heat level in his Habitat and changed the substrate all this is helping, the vet I see is actually very Herp saavy but is disinclined to use stronger Meds at this point because they are not with out side effects.
He will be reveiwing the animal in a few days.
