Just wondering........

kellybee Apr 30, 2007 07:58 AM

A few things really. Yoshi laid her eggs 10 days ago, and is still trying to bury them. Is that normal? I know for a week it is normal, but she guards it fiercely, I have not tried to tidy the tank, incase it upsets her, but she has almost completely buried the entire lay box in sand. I havent the heart to touch it.

Also, my little maggie has gone from skinny as a resut of laying, to looking really lumpy again in the space of about a week. She has shown no gravid coloration this time, and is eating a lot of wax worms to help her out, as well as the usual bug dust, liquid calcium, and such. Has anyone got anything else they could suggest to get her back on form?

Yep, many of my GOOD moms will stand guard and continue to cover the lay area. That's why I always say to people take the female out when you take the eggs, it really is a shame, if not stressful, I think for her to watch you take them.

People will say they don't care, I think they do !

Anyway sounds as though she is preparing for another clutch, same time frame about 22- 24 days after , some may take longer. They can have a few clutches in a season. Just keep her well fed, watered, and supplimented and loved

Thanks Eve, you really are on the ball today, lol

When you say another clutch, do you mean Yoshi the burial queen, or Maggie the lumpy not-red girl?

Sounds as if Maggie is getting hefty/lumpy again. Just have to see, I have one who was orange and big, and just lost her orange and looks thinner again, must have re-absorbed or just CHANGED HER MIND, lol

lol, I hope yours is ok, I am pretty sure you're right, she is eating a lot and seems very active. Not witnessed any more action with her though, she arches her back, fans her throat out and occasionally HISSES at arthur, I guess she just doesnt have the hots for him, lol.

lol, I think once was enough judging by her behaviour on the window ledge yesterday, he tried so hard but she just gave him the glare, and he quit trying

At least he has little Elvis and hopefully soon a common collared, I would love a pretty little hybrid, I adore Rix's Lizzy, he's a handsome chappie without a doubt
