W. TX weather report

Herpo Apr 30, 2007 11:11 AM

Yesterday (sunday) I had to head west to Odessa. I figured I'd time it so I could do some early evening herping in Andrews County, then herp my way back to Abilene. wnen I left at 4:15 it was overcast with temps around 83. 70 miles west temps were down to 67. then I started getting the rains. Since I was comitted to the trip, i kept going. WHen I left Odessa around sunset it was raining, temps at 59. Had rain all thw way back. Fortunately the worst of the rains were to the south and north.
Most of west Texas got pounded. Del Rio got a reported 6" of rain. Reeves, Crane, Pecos, Loving, Winkler counties and most of the counties out ther got pounded and it is likely to continue for most of this week. Nice that it is happening during the full moon.
Oh, well. my car needed a wash anyway.

All this rain in the Big Country is due to me washing not one, but TWO vehicles this past week!

How would the prospects for cruising the Taylor Co area be tonight after a day of hard rain but a comparatively pleasant evening? I was thinking of heading out for a look-see tonight.

Never mind--we're apparently still getting pummeled! Lots of electricity in the air all around, and heading this way.

give it a few days to dry up and warm up, copperheads should be moving. Shackelford and Jones counties should have massasaugas, kings, milks moving when the storms are through. Jones and Shackelford have been pounded last night and tonight, will probably be again tomorrow. Roby to Albany have been catching hell. Give them time to dry out and the flood waters to recede.
