What ball park figure will 07 Motleys be?
Thanks
Brian
Brian,
Ball Park Figure is hard on the Motleys because there are many things that happen in order for pricing to take place.
1. Competetion and Production.
I believe Motleys will be varied in Price compared against Bloodlines, Genetics, and Looks. All three of those will determine the cost of a Motley. If you just want your BASIC bottom Motley, it doesn't matter where it comes from or what it looks like, and customer service is something you want no part of, you'll be able to find them around 2500 to 3K. If you look hard, you may even get breeders that will give great service and back up what they sell to match those prices similar to what happened in other markets. (they will be forced to do this if people just want to sell them way below what market price is). Market Price is what people will PAY after an extended period of time. This is where it can get FUZZY.
I personally wouldn't sell any of My Motleys for that price, but I have heard people buying them from that. I have my opinions that better be left un said on the Public forum, but I think people who want to sell them for that have NO idea the power of the Gene. Either way, it is a FREE market, and anyone can do whatever they want.
Sorry this got answered in a different way. I'm just trying to get people to think about what they are going to INVEST in. Yes, it is an investment at 1000 an up in my opinion. 90 out of 100 people who pay more then 1000 for a snake will want to breed it.
Just off the cuff,
Jeremy Stone
I agree with all said and would like to add, big name breeders can command a higher price for a similar animal than a unknown or relatively unknown breeder.
Also, the big breeder typically will have the capacity to hold onto the animal until the right buyer comes along. I've seen smaller breeders keep dropping
their prices until it sells, or be willing to give large discounts on multiple purchases.
It's mind boggling how many ways there are to incorporate Motleys into all my future breeding plans.
My 2.1 Motley crew, I'd love your opinion's on them, what you like, what you don't like, where you would value tham at etc.

You bring up GREAT Points Dave. Yes bigger breeders have the ability to hold on longer. However, if the SMALL breeders squeeze the bigger breeders, bad things happen. I have seen this in soooo many different markets. This is what CAN happen. Bigger breeders will match the prices, and the smaller breeders can't sell as well just on PRICE. They drop prices, again a MATCH. Then, the smaller breeder can't compete, and the bigger breeder diversifies. Smaller breeder gets frustrated and complains, and many times GETS OUT. I think this is sad, but true. Bigger breeder can again diversify and still bring newer morphs to the table to sell. BOTH LOOSE in this Scinerio.
Many people think that all you need to do is just PRODUCE in this business, but I think this business is a going to turn into a more Service and sales oriented business that will out match PRICE. Yes, there are some issues with PRODUCTION, but overall, I think the market will obsorb it IF The project is worthy.
Again, I don't think this needs to happen in the Motley area, but you just never know. I have enough faith in the project and I have seen what the gene can do to many different morphs, that I'm VERY Confident the Motley will be a Key boa Compenent for MANY years to come.
Now, to Rate your Motleys. How can you ask this of me, when I LOVE ALL Motleys? lol
I think your first one is the best one. However, if you use good breeding pairs, I can see everyone of those Motleys Making some Incredible snakes in the future.
Jeremy
I too believe it's all about service to the customer, before, during and after the sale (and even if no sale). There's a HUGE amount to be said about dealing with someone who is upfront and totally honest.
While producing is key and pretty much a key "getting back into the black" steps, it has to be more than just that. A good breeder IMO needs to have an arsenal of quality animals that can be put togh=ether in multiple pairings to not just produce babies but to produce desirable babies. ie, not just an albino but a extra clean and/or highly colored albino. That and a variety of babies. If all you produce is albino's, no matter how well respected you are, folks looking for a ghost will have to go elsewhere.
Yeah, I understand the loving them all but we all know not every one is equal. Like you said, the number one male is just a bit cleaner and would be the one I would have picked if I was only getting one. Fortunately I was getting all three and didn't have to choose. Being new to the Motley scene and having not bred any before. Any recomendations for what to look for in a partner? I hear rumblings about patterning of the non Motley being key to the outcome. Care to elaborate? Feel free to take off line if you'd prefer.

Dave,
You bring up some awesome questions, and I love answering these. This would be helpful to me since I dont' think anyone is reading this if you could ask these same questions in the "Ask Jeremy" part of my page. Kingsnake.com hosts my page, and I'm sure if others want to join either here or there, it woudl be helpful to have discussions on the Motley project. Do it in about 1 week. It is getting fixed to where you can continue a dialog on the same questions similar to the forum, and I bet you and I could fill up a whole page on the Motleys. I would apprecaite that. Just email me in a week, and we can get that going.
GREAT GREAT QUESTIONS, and I believe i can help a lot on that from the experience I have gained from breeding Motleys consecutive for the last 8 years.
I can tell you are going to be sucessful just by the questions you are asking. They are Thoughtful and Carefully planned. Keep in mind I don't have all the answers, and you can adjust if there is an area you may disagree or may not even want to explore if I give advice.
Thanks again,
Jeremy Stone
