meal worms

are mealworms an ok source of food for a garter snake? i'm thinking about trying to catch one in the back yard. it would be a western garter i believe. i'm just south of denver, CO. i would be keeping it in a 10g with papertowels for substrate. also temps? thanks for any help.

Garter snakes don't eat insects. You have a wandering garter there..thamnophis elegans vagrans. They eat fish (no goldfish), amphibians, worms, and rodents. Normal house temps are ok for garters, they are very cold tolerant.

Meal worms are not good at all for garter snakes. They will eat through the garter snake if consumed.
