Gravid?

s_bo Apr 30, 2007 03:04 PM

Hi

My female has just shed and I am wondering if it could either be POS or a mid term shed.

She has been in with the male for a few months now but nothing has been seen. Around a month or so ago she seemed to bulk out a bit and has been lying curled up in the hottest part of the tank all the time. This makes me think she could be mid term but the thing is, since she shed a couple of days ago the male has gone down to the bottom part of the viv and stayed away from her, but upto that point he was always moving around and lying with her. This makes me think POS?!

As you may have guessed this is my first year with boas and I'm not too clued up on their behaviour during this period. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Thanks
Sam

Looks like a probably POS. If the male has still been steadily courting up until the shed and then all of a sudden stopped the courtship that would indicate a "textbook" response to an ovulation. I would still leave him in if I were you for a few more weeks just to see if he begins to court her again. If not after two or three weeks it is safe to assume she is either gravid or is no longer in season and not producing the pheramone that would attract him sexually. good luck on a healthy litter Keep us posted!
