New Babies and questions

coolcritter Apr 30, 2007 06:03 PM

Hi All, I just had a litter of 17 babies this morning.
I really know nothing about all these color morphs.
This is my first breeding of columbian boa's.
I got in trade 1.1 het albino's and a male supposibly a hypo 100% het albino 50% het stripe and anery.
I wanted to prove the 1.1 out and they produced 3 albino's
With the new babies do you need to wait to feed them after sheds ?
What about humidity ? do they need to kept more humid for the first few days ?
When should they shed ?

How can I find out if I have any special color morphs ?
or wont I ?
What % het are the babies ?
If I should keep any what should I breed them to ?
What about sexing ? I know how to probe chondros at a year old but I do not know how to pop any and I would rather not so what suggestions on sexing them ?

Thanks to anyone that reply's

do not feed them until AFTER they shed. Keep them as seperate as you can. they will fight eat and hurt each other thinking food sometimes. I had a buddy that lost six babies last year from it. Post pics of the babies and the guys here can tell you what you have. Your snakes are in fact het albino the ratio is pretty close to the genetic squares, That would make the babies all 66% hets at least the non albino of course.

Awesome thats great to hear Jim.If you could post some Pictures of the babys,That look the most defferent to your eyes .They should all be 66% het albino.I think i seen the Mom to them when i was there. I wish you didn't live on the other side of Michigan I would take a good look at them for you....Untill then lets see what you have Man...You have some Great cages also..

O yea you want to keep them warm around 88 to 90 on one side and maybe 84 on the other, there going to be frill untill they shed out and you can sex them all then and see what you have ..Did you get some stripes?.. I keep my fresh babys warm and wet at first and then slowly take away the humidity..Sounds like thier 66 % het alb.if you have stripes that would be nice

You wouldn't happen to have 2 4ft cages in white do you .If so i'll be out tomorrow, and i'll check the sex and see what you have brewed up..lol............Depending on when they were born and how adviced they are they could shed in one week or 2 if they where born on the early side.
