All,
What is the latest? Don't we have a year and a half reprieve if we can make it to May 11, 2007 with no action? What is the plan to keep it stalled? We don't want to let down our guard and then get screwed.

It's still sitting in the Calendar Committee with no further action. That committee has met 3-4 times since getting it and hasn't touched it yet. Hopefully they wont. Still nothing in the Senate.
Various sources suggest there is movement toward amending it to exclude snakes (not herps, just snakes). I'm still pushing for an exclusion on all herps, but for all intents a snake exclusion would be almost as good. TPWD will have a hard time nailing anyone for picking up a spadefoot.
My biggest worry (completely unfounded) is that they will exclude just rattlesnakes (help the Jaycees but screw us). Of course that would create almost as big an enforcement problem as an exclusion for just snakes.
I'm still calling and writing. Everyone should keep up pressure wherever they can. From the feedback I'm getting, the friendly and informative calls/letters are having a far better impact than the "preserve my rights or else" type of contacts.
That this thing will die without touching the floor at all. That will give us a year and half to put together a re-worked version of this that can be introduced through a willing Rep. I do not think we will be safe until something is on the books allowing us the right to collect on right of ways.
There is somebody out there that wants very much to shut down herping in Texas...?

Anyone know if Nevada is experiencing similar pressure? When I think of fairly generous herp regs, I think of TX and NV.
I was out of town traveling while most of the 2414 discussion was happening, and now I'm formulating my letter, in between the day job, night job, out of town guests, etc.
