undigested food

msett1 May 01, 2007 03:07 PM

My new baby leopard gecko refused to eat crickets and was eating mini meal worms. About 4-5 the past two nights. This morning I found what was a clump of totally undigested meal worms. It looked like maybe he pooped it at or could it be thrown up? I couldn't really tell. Whats wrong with him?

FYI: I got the leopard gecko just this past Friday so he is still very new.

Try some well fed crickets since he is "said", so young.

It may be a couple of issues regarding stress. Make sure the temps are ok, make sure he has water, and make sure the food wasnt to much for him to take at once along with beeing void of any disturbances. That happens alot with baby Leo's and mealies even I the cricket hater will admit that they are not the best for little guys. But dont just stop unless the worms are to big, I have seen Deathco. ( where the pets die) sell some realy small mealies that should be no problem but that many sounds like to many for that young of a Leo. Give about 2 every few days and some crickets.

I doubt it was pooped, I can place it on beeing thrown up.

I agree with the previous posters notes, all but one! lol Definitly check your temps in your enclosure. After feeding dont handle your leo it can stress the lil guy out and regurge is what will happen and you seem to alraedy have that there.
The part i didnt agree with is the feeding every couple days. I would definitly feed every day just not a whole lot. If all your going to feed is mealies then try and pick out freshly shed ones and make sure you are feeding appropiatly sized mealies. If you can get some small crix and use that as a variety. I beleive that young leos need to be feed every day to gain weight and have nutrtion to grow. Maybe throw some small wax worms or silk worms in there every few days.
This is just my opinion and how we have raised ours. Please use your best judgment on all advice given and pick and choose what you think is best for you and more importantly your leo!

yeah i agree about the feeding pretty much everyday. the freeshly shed mealworms will be nice and soft so should go down easily, although it usually takes a little while for them to shed from when i buy them i've found. i dont think he should be fed waxworms though, they've got me scared sh1tless now. silkworms are a good idea, and mini silkies cost next to nothing for a 100 or so. just give him 2-3 a day, if the regurgitation persists, dont be discouraged, just feed him 1 less mealie a day and see how it goes.

No no no...I ment the mealies, only feed those few days but keep up with the crickets.

sorry.

what are your cool and warm side temps?

mkco79 May 08, 2007 04:00 PM

we feed ours wax worms occasionally when they were babies i would give then 3 or 4 once a week because they are growing and it does help them pack on a little weight as long as its not all the time you shouldn't have a hard time with them becoming addicted.
