Congratulations, Vichris!

Please excuse my ignorance of turts/torts but are those gopher tortoises?

Have a good one!

Those are desert box turtles from NM. These are the first I've ever encountered. They were au-natural. I have the two that live in my backyard and the hatchlings just showed up a couple of weeks ago.

>>> "Those are desert box turtles from NM."

"Ahh, I see!" says the turt/tort ignoramus.
I thought their shells looked like a box turtle but also thought their front legs & heads looked more like a gopher. I see that I need to pay more attention to the Eastern Box Turtles I've got in my pastures.

I think its really something to witness things like that in the wild. Neat!

Later!

I ment to say that the hatchlings were a 1st for me. I wouldn't exactly say the turtles that live in my backyard are all that wild either LOL. I have a midsized backyard with a cinderblock fence. When I bought the house the previous owners told me that there was a turtle that had always lived in the backyard. A couple of years ago my older son found a turtle out on a remote jobsite fencing in some government property. He brought it home and those two have lived in my yard ever since. We've observed them breeding several times but this spring is the first time we've seen any offspring. They like to "get it on" right next to our hot tub. I think if they could get in the hot tub they would.

Ha! Ha! Sounds like they've been watchin' someone else. LOL! (We won't go there.)

They may not be wild but I'd stop short of saying they were captive. Either way, its still a neat story.

BTW, have you heard the latest on global warming? Three years ago scientists were saying that global warming was associated with decreases in rice crop yields. CBS News

Now they're saying that rice is one of the leading causes of global warming. Scientists blame global warming on rice

science...... as what Jim and Tammy Faye Baker where in Christianity.
I can't think of a bigger bunch of hucksters I've ever witness in my life than these so called global warming experts. It's gotten to where they make a big deal of EVERY new record high on earth but never report the same amount or more of new record lows. Alaska, Canada, and the Arctic this past winter was unusually cold with an over abundance of record lows but little or none of it was reported.
The grant money to "study" global warming is a deep deep well. I can't stand to even think about the sheer stupidity of those who think we (mankind/science) can make enough of an impact on the climate/atmosphere to change it.
We who have worked so hard over the past 30 years to clean up our air, water and land get zero credit of the fantastic strides we have made. There's no winning with these people. I purposely went and chopped down a tree for "Earth Day" this year. It was a tree growing right next to another one so the one left will be much more healthy but I still got a little in your face out of it.

Rant off
