I have lots of herpstats and love every one...use them on my incubators and the racks....just keep the probe away from the power and fan leads.

I use Herpstat also and love it also..

I think they may have a new probe out with a beefier wire lead on it? I think I saw it somewhere online?

The probe is definately a little whimpy..I am always worried about kinking the stupid thing..

Also, did the guy who posted the question mean controller or just a thermostat?

There is a difference..

Everyone - including me, uses thermostat when they should say controller.

not sure of the difference i think you mean that the ranco and jc brands are controllers because they can control different things like coolers and such but iam needing it for thermostat purpose. anything that is good for the money and i can get quick thanks again

Your right, the last couple I got had heavier leads, still rout them away from the power leads though....anymore that is common sense. I just love them for all the options...I use a photo-sensor for my night drop and piggy-back them during winter cooling. I used the night drop along with winter cooling with great results this year....now I have raised temps and done away with the night drop and all are going back on feed as advertised.....I love how you can predict these guys....just keep the hurricanes away and I will be fine this year....

for temp use, do you have a heat source? if so, hook it up to a light dimmer from any of the home improvement stores...this works good for a while but as summer temps increase...so will your setpoint....make sure to have a good digital thermometer so you do not overheat the poor guy...but in my opinion, the best is a good thermostat with heat tape or cable..the dimmer will let the temps increase with the ambient temp.
