My scarlet kingsnake is being weaned from anoles infact he is weaned but I still scent. He will eat pinkies but the problem is it takes about 6 to 8 hours roughly for him to finally bite it and eat it. It never occured to me that the pinkie might go bad ?
Its defrosted right before I place it in hide area with him . Roughly 80 to 82 degrees is his favorite hide area.

I place the pinkie in his hide area with him he coils around it-looks at it-"sniffs" it than loses interest but after roughly 6 to 8 hours he than bites it and eats it.

Any input,suggestions ?

could try a live pinky. it might be the fact that the food's not moving that gets him. Just a thought.

If he's taking f/t - don't try live.

All five of my baby kings last year were on f/t and I ran out - so I went to live for two feedings. Two of them never took a f/t again. One of them I still have - I'm going to try moving her back to f/t after brumation next spring.

Thank you very much everyone . I am glad its okay to leave the pinkie there for 6 hours though yesterday he ate in 4 hours so great.
I couldnt use live because he runs from it lol but I can tell when he is hungry as active at night and early am so give him a thawed pinkie every 7/8 days or so.
He wants to eat it but seems to wait 6 hours roughly lol. Before he ate anoles right away but now pinkies he is eating granted takes awhile
Either way glad 6 hours is okay.
