Anyone feed silkworms ?

cee4 May 02, 2007 08:49 AM

Im thinking about ordering a bunch.Ive tried roaches(Dont like messing with them).
I have a mealworm colony that produces just enough for my two geckos.I also do a decent job of raising crickets, but sometimes the eggs dont hatch and I have to buy another batch and start over.
I use the crickets mostly for my tokays, they wont eat mealies.
The leos will only eat crickets if I hand feed them.
But I really would like to vary the diet a bit.

Ahh my Tokay loveing friend, do they love the roaches?

I have fed silks to my Leos, honestly its good but in the end I feel its not worth the priceing.

I used to feed roaches and such, I had no problem with that at all but thats just me.

HINT: suction cup a mealie worm container, a deep one to your Tokays glass and fill it with mealies, eventualy he will notice them and get excited. I have done this for years and it is ( I FEEL ) a key in the diet that helped me get mine to breed.

Thinckened em up very well and muscular to.

oops sory for going off topic...

I use silkworms as a regular part of my feeding rotation. The key is to stay away from the silkworm chow if you can. It's messy. Buy and plant a small mulberry tree if you've got the space. They grow very fast. Also, buy the silkworms small. They're cheaper that way. My leos love them, but I make sure I rotate crickets in so they don't go off feeding on them.
