distilled water and incubation medium..

wisema2297 May 02, 2007 05:29 PM

Is distilled water safe to use in the incubation medium? I am using a vermiculite/perlite mix. I do not want to use tap water because ours has so much stuff in it (floride, chlorine, etc.) When buying bottled water you never know what is actually in it. What have you guys used succesfully? Thanks.

Don't use distilled water.
It kills many biological organisms.

Get bottled spring water.
I use arrowhead - for my snakes to drink and for mixing the incubation medium.

Thanks. I knew distilled water could leech animals of nutrients and minerals and was afraid it could do the same to eggs.

Me and my snakes all drink good old VT tap water. Its what I use with my eggs too. Never had any probs.

I have never tried distilled water, but I would be a little nervous about leaching minerals from the eggs.

If you try it, make sure to let us know how it turns out.

I use Philadelphia tap water with no problems.
