distilled water and incubation medium..

wisema2297 May 02, 2007 05:29 PM

Is distilled water safe to use in the incubation medium? I am using a vermiculite/perlite mix. I do not want to use tap water because ours has so much stuff in it (floride, chlorine, etc.) When buying bottled water you never know what is actually in it. What have you guys used succesfully? Thanks.

Ralph, I think the common theme I'm reading is to make sure the water is Chlorine free. I would suspect a good spring/bottled water would be perfectly fine. I know distilled is not good for their drinking source, so I'd be hesitant on using it in your medium. Then again, I might be totally wrong and it's not harmful to the eggs at all, but I'd say you can't go wrong with the spring water. Just read the lable carefully on which ever one you purchase.

Thanks Steve. I have one female that just shed and two others are in their prelay shed phase with their eyes just now clearing up so I want to get the egg boxes ready!! I did purchase some spring water today and used that.
