juvie tincs

otis07 May 02, 2007 06:48 PM

i just got 4 juvinile tincs today and i'm pretty sure two are females and that one is a male, but am unsure about the other one. they are all about .5 long and i'm keeping all 4 in a 10 gallon together. they're all an extremly healthy size and weight. they guy i got them from said he heard one call. my question is, when will they be mature enough for breeding. i read some stuff saying anywhere from 8-18 months. but if it's calling, does that mean it could breed now? just curious and thanks for any info. you can give me!

If they are only .5 inch long, that's still "froglet" stage for a tinctorius. (Or by .5, did you mean half their projected adult size?) I believe the smallest adult morph found is still about 35mm. or approximately 1 3/8 inches long. I don't think you'll see any breeding activity for about a year or so, during which time, you can hopefully match them up in at least one pair. Even if you have a precocious male, the females of the same age won't be ready for a while yet.

Can you post some pictures of them? It's always fun to see someone's new frogs.

they're .5ish inches now, maybe a little bigger. they're still acting like froglets if you know what i mean, there are four in the same tank and they are getting along great, but that'll change soon. there is one that i suspect to be male, but too young to be sure. the guy i got them from said he heard one calling so there's def. a male in there somewhere. i had no idea they called when they were this little. do you know if they normally do? i took a bunch of pretty good pics of all four of them, but with a new camera and i am still trying to figure out how to download pics. i'll put them in the forums and dart gallery when i figure it out though. i am behind on uploading pics, used to be better about it. thanks for the reply!
