My son and my brother-in-law went herping yesterday near my house in NC. They came upon two carpets near a field. Flipped the first carpet - Nothing! Then my son flipped the second piece of (a 6' x 6') carpet and TWO nice adult cornsnakes were under one end, and when he flipped the other end, there was a big three foot melanistic Eastern hognose coiled up with a black racer! I thought finding four (good sized) snakes under one piece of trash interesting enough (I've never been that lucky, lol), BUT what was interesting is that the Hoggie was coiled up with a black racer. Never heard of that before!
Last year though, I flipped TWO adult Eastern Kingsnakes coiled together, just sleeping. The weird thing was is that they were both females! STRANGE WORLD.....
According to my son, the two corns appeared to be a breeding pair and have nice colors on them. I will try to post some pics in about three/four weeks. Sorry - (I'm finishing up my last month overseas) Then I'll be home for a good long while! WooHoo!
