Use this cage as a Viv?

lovebox505 May 03, 2007 10:38 AM

I have these Boaphile cages from when I use to have snakes, I was going to list them on Craiglists but while I was cleaning them up I realized they might make a great vivarium. Particularly the middle one, because it has a larger lip for water. Although they are not made to hold water they are one peice of molded plastic. What do you guys think?

I'd be concerned about having the lighting inside the enclosure because of heat control and the need for high humidity, misting and such that might corrode or even explode lights. The bottom cage doesn't seem to have enough vertical space for most darts, or for live plants.

It seems that you could make a pretty good trade with those cages for a really nice, more open glass vivarium or two.

The white strip in the middle cage is a perch, not a light, but if I were going to do this I would have to modify the tops to allow light exposure from the top, I agree, I would not light from within. But I believe I have come to the conclusion that it would be more trouble than its worth, I'm trying to sell them now and maybe that will fund my new dart tank

i think those would make really amazingly sweet vivs, the black frams is awsome and the open front would make it super easy to feed and wipe down that glass, mist, and clean the tank. any ideas on what you're going to put in it?
